Healing through movement, nature, and gentle connection

Walk & Talk Therapy in Edmonton

Walk & Talk Therapy offers a grounded, spacious alternative to traditional in-office therapy. Instead of sitting face-to-face indoors, we take our session outside—walking at a comfortable pace, allowing nature, movement, and fresh air to support the therapeutic process.

For many people, being outside makes it easier to breathe, reflect, and soften into emotional work. Movement naturally regulates the nervous system, decreases stress hormones, and helps untangle patterns that feel stuck when we’re sitting still.

Why Walk & Talk Therapy?

Walking side-by-side can feel less intense than sitting across from someone. Many clients find it easier to:

  • access emotions without feeling overwhelmed

  • speak more freely without the pressure of eye contact

  • stay regulated through gentle movement

  • process difficult topics with the support of nature

  • reconnect with their bodies and breath

  • experience therapy as grounding, not clinical

Movement helps shift the body out of fight/flight or freeze and into a more open, resourced state. The steady rhythm of walking becomes a therapeutic anchor.

A Somatic & Nervous System-Informed Approach

Because stress and trauma often live in the body, Walk & Talk Therapy complements somatic work beautifully. It is especially helpful if you find that movement helps you think, feel, or process more fluidly.

Walking outdoors supports:

  • nervous-system regulation through bilateral movement and sensory grounding

  • ventral vagal activation (safety cues) through nature, open space, and gentle rhythm

  • reduced tension and increased emotional processing

  • connection to breath and body signals

  • slower, more mindful pacing

The natural environment also serves as an additional co-regulator gently—rustling leaves, open sky, bird chirps, crisp air— these cues remind your system that it’s safe to soften.

Walk & Talk Therapy Can Look Like:

Each session begins with a check-in and a sense of how your body feels today. We walk at whatever pace feels comfortable—slow, steady, or relaxed.

Throughout the session, we may:

  • pause to ground, breathe, or notice sensations

  • use somatic cues (breath, posture, pace) to guide the work

  • explore emotions while supported by movement

  • sit on a bench or open area if stillness feels supportive
